MA Motorcycle Insurance

Riding a motorcycle in Massachusetts is challenging and fun. It can also be dangerous.

Much like your auto insurance policy, the cost of your motorcycle insurance will be determined by driving record, experience, town, year, make, model, and value of the bike.

Tips For Beginner Riders:

– Take the MA Rider Training Course. More than 90% of the motorcyclists involved in crashes are self-taught or learned from family or friends. In addition, you will be eligible for an additional 10% discount on your MA motorcycle insurance policy.

– Get your MA motorcycle learner’s permit by passing a knowledge test based on the MA drivers’ license manual. This test may be taken without an appointment at any full-service Registry of Motor Vehicles.

– To earn your MA motorcycle license, pass the Beginner Rider Course or the RMV’s road test.

– Wear protective riding gear. State law requires motorcycles and their passenger (also moped riders) to wear a helmet. State law also requires motorcyclists and their passengers to have eye protection. To better protect yourself from the elements and the road, wear a long sleeve shirt or jacket, long pants, over the ankle footwear, and full finger gloves.

– Insure, Register, and Inspect your motorcycle. There are mandatory and optional insurance coverages available for motorcycles. Obtain registration, license plate, and title for your motorcycle by having your MA insurance agent prepare and stamp a Registry Form 1 for you. Within 7 days of getting your motorcycle registered, get your MA inspection sticker. Each year you must have your motorcycle reinspected between January 1 and May 31.

– Share the road. Ride defensively and be courteous. Never try to save time by weaving through traffic. Use both electric and hand turn signals and your horn to communicate with other drivers. Position yourself on the road to avoid the blind spots fo drivers. Wear highly visible clothing to be seen by other drivers. Look for drivers taking left turns in front of you, especially at intersections — most crashed between cars and motorcycles occur this way.

– Have Fun!

Tire Tips

Take five minutes every month to check your tires including: Pressure, Alignment, Rotation, and Tread …

penny test

Take five minutes every month to check your tires including:

Pressure: Under inflation is a tire’s #1 Enemy. Check your tire pressure. A tire can lose up to half of its air pressure and not appear to be flat!

Alignment: Is your vehicle pulling to one side, or shaking? Have a tire dealer check the alignment periodically to ensure your car is properly aligned.

Rotation: You should rotate your tires approximately every 5,000 miles. Regularly rotating your vehicle’s tires will help you achieve more uniform wear.

Tread: Measure & inspect it. Visually check your tires for uneven wear, looking for high and low areas or unusually smooth areas.

The penny test: place a penny into a tire tread groove. If part of Lincoln’s head is covered by the tread, you’re driving with the proper amount of tread. If you can see all of his head, you should buy a new tire.

accident forgiveness

One of the new programs many Massachusetts auto insurance companies now offer is: “Accident Forgiveness.”

Some companies make you buy it, some companies make you earn it.

Some companies will only include Accident Forgiveness if you have a perfect driving record, some will include it if you’ve had up to one previous accident.

Another MA company will give it to you only if you have a perfect driving record AND you’ve been insured with them for four years.

What is Accident Forgiveness?

Accident Forgiveness does not erase accidents already on your driving record. Instead, if you have the endorsement on your policy they will forgive future at-fault accidents.

Are all insurance companies’ Accident Forgiveness program the same?

No. Each company offers the program only to certain drivers. New drivers, or new insurers, or those with multiple accidents may not qualify.

Consumers placed with a company through the MAIP program may not qualify either. Check with your agent or company to see if you qualify.

Does Accident Forgiveness make sense for you?

Sometimes the Accident Forgiveness program is bundled with the “Disappearing Deductible” endorsement. Sometimes it makes financial & coverage sense to include the endorsement and increase your collision deductible.

Contact MassAutoQuote.com if you have any questions about Accident Forgiveness or concerns about your MA auto insurance policy.

We welcome the opportunity to review your insurance and offer different coverage and premium options.

MA Auto Insurance Real Time Quotes!

We are pleased, but somewhat wary, to announce:

Real Time Quotes Are Here!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

For over a decade, MassAutoQuote has been providing Massachusetts consumers auto insurance quotes.

These quotes we done the old-fashioned way. We looked up your driving record and vehicle information, plugged all the components into our comparative rater, rated with numerous companies, and showed the best rates and coverage.

We are pleased, but somewhat wary, to announce:

Real Time Quotes Are Here!

Last week we implemented real-time rating whereby 1 of the 7 companies we rate with will show you, providing you meet their quote requirements, a “real-time” rate at the end of your completion of our quote request form.

Unfortunately, this rate is pre-additional discounts you may qualify for, and it’s not necessarily the company with the best rate we can offer.

We believe consumers want to view real-time rates, research coverage options, with numerous companies while utilizing the services of the Massachusetts Independent Agent.

We believe showing a real time quote, any real time MA auto insurance quote, is a start.

Once you’ve got your rate, or if you don’t get shown a specific rate, we will rate, discount, and provide coverage options to show you the best available premiums.

MassAutoQuote: The best rates, the best service, the best companies.

MA Auto Policy, Part 4: Property Damage

Let’s take a look at the Massachusetts Private Passenger Auto Insurance Policy:

Part 4. Damage to Someone Else’s Property …

MA Auto Insurance Property Damage

As a Massachusetts auto insurance shopper, it is important to compare “apples to apples” coverage between insurance companies.

In our effort to help educate the MA Auto Insurance consumer, let’s take a quick look at the Massachusetts Private Passenger Auto Insurance Policy:

Part 4. Damage to Someone Else’s Property-

Under this Part, we will pay damges to someone else whose auto or other property is damaged in an accident. The damages we will pay are the amounts that person is legally entitled to collect for property damage through a court judgement or settlement. We will pay only if you or a household member is legally responsible for the accident. We will also pay is someone else using your auto with your consent is legally responsible for the accident. Damages include any applicable sales tax and the costs resulting from the loss of use of the damaged property.

MA auto insurance compulsary limits are $5,000 per accident.

http://www.Massautoquote.com recommends you carry, at least, limits of $100,000 per accident.

You may want to consider limits of $250,000 per accident.

Let’s go to our MA auto insurance comparative rating software:

In a previous blog article we quoted a client, living in Charlestown, MA with an annual premium of $1,656.

This coverage includes $100,000 per accident, Part 4. Damage to Someone Else’s Property.

If our client chose $50,000 per accident of coverage (which her previous carrier sold her), the annual savings would be: – $3.00. (minus three dollars annually). Absurd.

For a valuable coverage which will pay for damage if you hit someone’s Ferrari, or house, or telephone pole, or automobile carrier filled with BMWs, or oil truck, it seems to make all the sense in the world to carry $100,000 (vs $50,000).

If our client decided to carry $250,000 per accident of coverage, the annual premium would be: + $4.00.

Do yourself a favor, take a look at your Part 4. Damage to Someone Else’s Property coverage. If you don’t carry, at least, limits of $100,000 per person call your independent, MA auto insurance agent and ask them how much it would cost to improve your coverage.

Massachusetts Lemon Law

When life gives you a lemon … give it back!

Have you been sold a lemon of a vehicle?

Many people have asked us about the Massachusetts Lemon Law.

To qualify for the MA Lemon Aid Law, your vehicle must fail an official Massachusetts safety and emissions inspection within 7 days of purchase.

Next, you must get a written estimate for the cost for the inspection-related repairs. If the repair estimate is for more than 10% of the purchase price of the vehicle, you can get a full refund from the seller (private party or dealer).

To get a refund you must return the vehicle to the seller within 14 days of purchase with a signed statement by the inspector of why the vehicle failed, a copy of the estimate and a letter telling the seller that you want to cancel the sale.

MA Online Quotes

Since MassAutoQuote opened our internet doors in 2001 we have provided tens — if not hundreds — of thousands of auto insurance quotes to Massachusetts consumers.

For the past decade, while on top of search engine listings, we’ve been asking companies and vendors to allow us to quote MA auto insurance in a real-time environment.

We imagined a time when MA auto insurance consumers could get real-time, online quotes from multiple insurance companies. A place where shoppers could manipulate and research coverage, premium and discount options.

Recently the leading MA auto insurance comparative rating vendor, Boston Software, released a product that allows for real-time quotes from a number of insurance companies, through independent insurance agency websites.

What may seem like a small thing is, in my opinion, a big thing. I believe it is the tip of a very large insurance iceberg which will prove to be a great thing for the MA independent insurance agent, and an even greater thing for the MA auto insurance consumer!

Stay tuned …
